Sustainable Shetland
Here at The Shetland Fairy we are passionate about protecting our environment along with making it a more wonderful place to live in.
We are conscious of our impact on the planet and want a happier, safer place for us, our children and our children’s children. You can often see us on the beaches collecting what mess us humans have left behind. Every little helps, so they say.

Supporting a Sustainable Shetland
Shetland lies at 60° north. Being so far north means that the summer days are very long and the winter days are short. It is safe to say Shetland is closer to the Arctic Circle than it is to London’s bright city lights. The winters can be rough and having a business that attends to craft fairs all helps to get people out of the house and socialising which is great for people’s wellbeing especially for those that are isolated with Shetland having many remote areas.
Running a business is never easy, and all needle felted items are handmade by myself at The Fairy Headquarters, but it’s safe to say all the hard work is so rewarding and it sure does help with the economic growth of The Shetland Islands.
A Tree for Every Order
The Shetland Fairy has teamed up with Ecologi so with every order purchased online a tree is planted. This helps to reduce our carbon footprint and to help slow down the climate change.
+ Pack of Seeds
All of our fairies come with a pack of seeds too to help our wildlife thrive, and of course it’s somewhere for the real fairies to hide too!
Recyclable UK Materials
The Shetland Fairy always try and source materials from the UK and all our packaging is now recyclable. The wool is a natural animal-derived fibre. It’s also biodegradable to the point of being considered compostable.

Animal Welfare
Welfare of the animals is important to us so NO wool is ever from sheep involved with sheep mulesing.
Ethically Sourced Crystals
Our crystals are ethically sourced too which means we get our crystals in from a reputable supplier that only use family owned mines and other sources who are cautious and careful when mining.
Those who know how powerful crystal energies are and understand why it is vital to respect the people and grounds from where they came. The crystals are of good grade too.
Crystals are not registered as fair trade products but our supplier makes sure they are mined under safe ethical conditions and that the workers are in a secure environment and receive fair substantial wages. The supplier and ourselves would never knowingly purchase goods from a company that employed people in unfair or poor working conditions.
